Get Involved!Hurricane Pride Marian Central Catholic encourages all our students to become involved in the sports and other activities we have to offer. By being involved, you will be taking steps that will help you become successful as you improve and grow as a total person.
To help you do this, Marian Central Catholic has a number of sports and other co-curricular activities in which you can participate and enjoy. Over eighty-five percent of our student body participates in one or more of these activities, clubs, organizations, or sports. Athletic ActivitiesMarian Central competes in the Suburban Catholic Conference and adheres to the rules and regulations of the Conference and the Illinois High School Association (IHSA). The school offers no co-ed sports. The following is a list of the interscholastic sports that are offered at Marian:
Fencing is a co-ed club/activity that runs from November to mid-February and operates outside of the IHSA program. Fencers purchase their own practice equipment – a foil, mask, fencing jacket and pants, and equipment bag. During the season, fencers practice three days a week after school. Boys’ and girls’ squads earn varsity and junior varsity letters/numerals in three weapons – foil, epée, and saber. In a twenty-five meet season, fencers compete in one dual meet a week and in invitational meets held on Saturdays. The Co-Curricular ProgramAt Marian, learning and scholarship are central. All other endeavors flow from this central purpose. The co-curricular program is offered in line with the educational philosophy that academics come first, but that the co-curricular program is an integral part in the educational process of high school students. As stated in the Marian Central Catholic School Philosophy, a goal of the school is "to provide student leadership opportunities within the school community." With this theme in mind, the co-curricular program with its various types of activities has been established. Students are encouraged to become involved in as many activities as practical. Academic
